Description: For sale I have a British Military issued Pocket Watch made by Minerva. The watch has been serviced and is running well. This is a big watch. The diameter of the Nickel case is 58mm. It is weighty too. At this size and weight these watches sit well in the hand. The Nickel case has a screwed back and bezel, thankfully nobody has been at it with a knife and there are no nicks as a result. It is in good condition for its age and use. The bow appears to be mild steel and arrived with me very rusty. I have not been able to find a suitable replacement and so I have cleaned it up as best I can. While not looking its best it is sound and will take a chain fine. The case also retains its original mineral crystal. While the crystal does have marks finding decent replacement minerals is not easy. I do not feel that putting a plexi into this case at this time would be a good idea. The Minerva signed movement has been fully stripped and cleaned. It is in good condition and runs well. I have retained the original mainspring also as it has still got some life in it. It has been sympathetically relumed as the original radium was in a poor state of decay. Naturally, in doing so the watch will no longer be anywhere as radioactive as it was. The hands have been relumed as well for both aesthetics and legibility. The hands are heat treated steel and are magnetic. To summarise this is a nice example of WW1 issued watches. While the radium has been removed / replaced the watch appears to be 100% original in terms of parts etc. It has been fully cleaned and lubricated and can be used daily should the new owner wish to do so without the fear that it will self destruct. Mechanically and structurally the watch is in good condition. The let down is the bow, however it is still very strong and more than capable of doing its job. Thanks.
