He is to be wounded twice and captured at the end of the war near Prague. He returned home in 1946 I skimmed the book and it seems while in France he was in the 7th infantry division as a bicycle dispatch rider. Later his bicycle unit is formed with the 204th regiment of the 97th Light Infantry division and sent to the Russian Front. For the rest of the war he is in this unit. Eventually he becomes a motorcycle rider. A collection of previously unpublished photographs taken by a foot soldier on the front lines of the German war machine during the Second World War captures powerful images of soldiers undertaking quotidian tasks, sharing moments of leisure, and canvassing the aftermath of battle.
