Description: Vintage MCM Roseville Pottery Hyde Park Line heavy pottery ashtray piece shape #1961, made between 1940-1954, Indiana, USA for Notre Dame University. These ashtrays were a collaboration where Roseville made the pottery portion and Hyde Park made the metal disks. The ashtray is pale green inside with sage green accents along the edges. The outside is white. It is glazed inside and out. A raised section in the top right corner has a copper metal medallion/disk with the Notre Dame name and shield embossed on it. The disk is held in place with a bolt in the bottom. Another raised area has 5 divots for resting cigarettes or cigars. The ashtray measures 11 1/4" long, 8 5/8" wide and sits 1 3/4" high. It is made of thick pottery weighing over 3 1/2 lbs. The back is impressed with "Hyde Park Line", the piece shape number and "Made in USA". The copper medallion shows wear, possibly from people tapping a pipe on it? The ashtray is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Rare piece to find.
