Description: CORNING MUSEUM 'DOSE' SUPERB RARE 3 DIMENSIONAL STUDIO GLASS ARTWORK BOX JACK INK SIGNED IRIDESCENT BRASS MOUNTS VINTAGE LOETZ PHAENOMEN STYLE THIS LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE STUDIO GLASS ARTWORK BOX / 'DOSE' WAS MADE, AND IS SIGNED BY, STUDIO GLASS ARTIST, JACK INK. I BELIEVE IT IS CIRCA 1980's. THE BOX MEASURES APPROX. 7 1/4" LONG, 5 1/2" HIGH, AND 4" WIDE. IT IS 2 SEPARATE, FORMED GLASS PIECES, FITTED WITH BRASS MOUNTS, WHICH FIT PERFECTLY TOGETHER.IT WEIGHS ALMOST 6 POUNDS. THE BOX IS SIGNED / INSCRIBED AND NUMBERED, "JACK INK 1678", ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TOP.THE INTERIOR IS ACID ETCHED AND HAS A FROSTED SURFACE. THIS GLASS WORK IS A MASTERFUL COMBINATION OF SHAPE, COLORING, PATTERNS AND IRIDESCENCE. ADDING TO THAT IT'S MOST IMPRESSIVE MASS, AND YOU HAVE A BEAUTIFULLY 'SCULPTED', THREE DIMENSIONAL, STUDIO GLASS, ARTWORK. THE EXTERIOR IRIDESCENCE, LINEAR PATTERNS AND ORGANIC SHAPES, WORK TOGETHER TO CREATE A PIECE WITH COLOR, MOVEMENT AND BEAUTY. THIS BOX IS VERY REMINISCENT OF WORK BY LOETZ AND KRALIK. SPECIFICALLY, THE PULLED FEATHER DECOR OF THE PHAENOMEN GENRES OF LOETZ, AND THE BLUE ON GOLD 'KING TUT' DECOR OF KRALIK. I SEE NO SCRATCHES, CRACKS, CHIPS OR DAMAGE. THE CONDITION IS EXCELLENT. ALTHOUGH BORN IN THE USA, JACK INK MOVED TO AUSTRIA, (SEE BELOW).HIS WORK CAN BE FOUND IN THE CORNING MUSEUM, AS WELL AS OTHER MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES IN USA AND EUROPE. HERE ARE THREE ARTICLES WITH SOME INFORMATION FOUND ON THIS GLASS ARTIST (EBAY HAS SENT NOTICE TO REMOVE THE LINKS AND SITES I PROVIDED, SO FEEL FREE TO SEARCH THE INTERNET. 1) THIS IS AN INFORMATIVE ENTRY DESCRIBING A VASE BY JACK INK, WHICH THE PURCHASER / WRITER SHARED 9 YEARS AGO, ON COLLECTORS WEEKLY, UNDER 'SHOW & TELL ITEMS'.I RECOMMEND READING IT. "Jack Ink is a former Littleton student who moved abroad and is now living in Vienna Austria since 1975. He along with the well known glasshouse Lobmeyer opened a factory in Baden where he produced this vase, circa 1980. The factory was later sold in 1989. His art is in several museums including the Corning and on display at Lobymeyer. His work is better know in Europe and on rare occasions sold thru major auctions houses. The oil spotting and strong iridescence drew me to this vase. The dealer didn't know what it was. He had misread the signature and labelled it incorrectly. On our trip to Vienna, I remembered seeing Ink's work in a shop window. The neighborhood around Lobmeyers store is loaded with high end dealers and a similar vase was on display in a shop window. This piece is in as made condition and stands 10.75" tall by 9.5 wide...its huge in person. The area at the handles that appear white/grey are a factor of reflection of my lighting and how the glass turns more opaque in its folds. There are no repairs or restorations.Ink was honored with the Bavarian Government Award and the International renowned Coburg Award and is founder of the Studio Glass Group Austria , heading the Glass Studio Franzensbad.A book of his work was published in 1990 with text by Ulrich Pietsch and Harvey Littleton.Judith Millers book 20th Century Glass also features Ink's work. The composition of Ink's glass has been analyzed and compared to that by Loetz and Tiffany here....an interesting read. The article was published June 2000 on SpringerLink, under "Identification and Classification of Iridescent Glass Artifacts with XRF and SEM/EDX" 2) "The glass artist Jack Ink was born in 1944 in Canton, Ohio, United States. Jack Ink studied among others at the University of Wisconsin, where he became an assistant to Harvey Littleton and Eric Rudans. In his art he creates mainly glass paintings, the main themes being landscapes and the sea." 3) FOR SOME CONTEXT RE, HARVEY LITTLETON: "Harvey Littleton (June 14, 1922 – December 13, 2013) was an American glass artist and educator, one of the founders of the studio glass movement; he is often referred to as the "Father of the Studio Glass Movement".[1] Born in Corning, New York, he grew up in the shadow of Corning Glass Works..." * I ACCEPT PAYPAL ONLY.* I DO NOT SHIP INTERNATIONALLY AT THIS TIME.* I SHIP USPS PRIORITY, INSURED.* SIGNATURE REQUIRED ON DELIVERY. 1) ALL ITEMS ARE SOLD 'AS IS' AND SALE IS FINAL. 2) REFUNDS ARE ONLY CONSIDERED IN THE EVENT THAT AN ITEM HAS BEEN GROSSLY MISREPRESENTED. 3) PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE, AND REVIEW THE PHOTOS FOR DESCRIPTION.
