Description: this is a lovely impressionistic oil painting of the Eastern Point Lighthouse located in Gloucester, MA done by listed artist Oscar Anderson (1873 - 1953) - the very talented artist created a sharp contrast between the boulder-strewn land upon which the lighthouse & its utility buildings were standing whereby the boulders were painted in reddish-brown colors, & the lighthouse with its buildings were painted in light beige color (as well as the two masted sailboat sailing around the rocky point) - note also that the group of rocks in the lower right of the painting were also painted with a grayish-beige which contrast with the dark reddish-brown colors of the boulders that are located just above the group of rocks - in further contrast is the light blue color of the ocean water which can be seen in the lower left side of the painting - the sky in the top one third of the painting was done in a grayish-blue color which coordinates well with the rest of the colors in the painting - this painting has been professionally restored & relined with a 2nd canvas on the reverse - it has been placed on newer wooden stretchers than the original stretchers - the gilded wooden frame is relatively new but enhances the painting well - there is fine but stable craquelure on the surface of the painting which is not very visible when hanging on a wall - i believe that the brass label on the base of the frame is original to the painting - the painting measures 13" x 19: sight size & is in very good vintage condition - the gilded frame measures 17" x 23" & is in very good condition -
