Description: Up for sale is this rare and vintage Mid Century Modern lidded, round bowl / box and plate set with beautiful swirled design on top. Almost reminds me of a morning bun and the textures and glaze leads me to believe this could be an original Rosenthal Netter for Bitossi Italian art pottery piece. When I first found the set, the lid just showed two holes on the top so perhaps it was intended that way and possibly used as a potpourri bowl where the aromatics could come out of those two small holes. I went ahead and tied a small black string through these holes to act as a little lid handle of sorts but you can easily cut that off if you do not want it. The lid and bowl and under plate are all matching and belong together, thus, these three pieces are being sold together as a set. I have not been able to match this set to another set and so I think it could be quite a rare and scarce piece. Having handled many Italian art pottery pieces from Fratelli, Aldo Londi, Rosenthal Netter, and others, I really do think this set comes from one of these iconic Italian Mid Century period designers and stylistically speaking and the fact it is unsigned, I believe it is likely to be a Rosenthal Netter piece. Please view all the close up pictures provided of each item in the set and look at the pottery material, unique style, etc. - I am convinced this is a scarce and special set! I have seen identical colors and this swirled design on large vases and other objects but not in this particular set. The last photo is of a similar style on a vase. Use it for potpourri or for candy or nuts or to store whatever you please. It is functional and beautiful by itself. The under plate measures 5.5” inches in diameter and 0.8” inch tall (14 cm, 2 cm). The bowl measures 4.6” inches in diameter (11.7 cm). The lid measures 4.8” inches in diameter (12.2 cm). The bowl and lid together measures 2” inches tall (5.1 cm). Would make a fantastic set to display and use, fine addition to a collection, or a great gift!
