Description: Vintage Anco Bilt Oak Drafting Table & Large Maple Top Refurbished Really Nice! This exceptional Anco Bilt drafting table features an oak base and a large 31” x 42” maple or birch top. It has been completely disassembled, cleaned and refinished. When we say refinished, what we actually did was to clean the piece and apply some tung oil and wax to the existing finish. This type of refinishing provides an attractive and durable finish, while being completely reversible. The top had a lacquer finish on the top side that was quite rough, so we sanded it before applying the tung oil and wax. Most drafting tables used by draftsmen have the top covered in a special 5-layer vinyl that provides a smooth surface and heals itself after any light damage occurs. That might be why the top was rough - no need to make it a furniture finish if it’s going to be covered. This table is not supplied with the aforementioned vinyl. Additionally all metal parts were stripped and repainted. Many of the original steel screws had corroded due to the tannins in the oak, so they were replaced with brass screws (except some of the trunnion to top bolts were kept and painted gold to match). The cast iron curved adjustable trunnion mounts allow the top to be tilted from -40 to +40 degrees from level. The height of the table is adjustable from approximately 30” to 36” (top of table top to floor). The top is dated December 15, 1989, but the base is likely from the ‘60’s or ‘70’s. A lot of these tables were used in high schools and it wasn’t uncommon for the tops to need replacing periodically. A simple wood pencil shelf will be included (not shown in photos) that attaches with screws to the front edge of the top to prevent pens, pencils or other objects from rolling off the top. The base of this table breaks down into a number of mostly flat pieces and that is how it will be shipped, so assembly will be required. There are no assembly instructions, just the photos from this listing, so any potential buyer will need to have some mechanical ability. We will provide a small container (or a description of the exact type) of touch up paint in case any of the hardware’s finish is chipped during assembly.
