Vintage AKAI GX-230D 3-head reel-to-reel tape deck

Description: 3 head, 3 motor tape recorder with reverse playback. Classic retro-look cosmetics and controls. This 1975-1976 deck with Glass and Crystal GX Heads and AC Servo Capstan Motor was a nice step-up up from entry level decks of the time. It is solidly constructed machine that exemplifies the more heavyweight 1970's build quality. A bit clunky compared to their successors, these machines still handled tape well and had very good performance in both recording and playback. Machines from the 1980's have superior performance in many respects, but the overall construction gives the machines from that generation a very different feel, which is not to everyone's liking. The retro qualities of the 1970's decks still have a unique appeal to many users. I have a later model AKAI GX-255, which offers superb performance, but I honestly enjoy using my GX-230D more. The heads are all Akai's renowned GX design which made them highly resistant to wear. Reel capacity is 7". Speeds are 7.5 ips and 3.75 ips. Supplied with copy of owners manual and a take-up reel. This machine was professionally serviced in 2020 and will be thoroughly tested before shipping.
