Description: US Pattern 1839 "Baby" Belt Plate - Lead Filled - Mexican War, Civil War Adopted in 1839, this US stamped and lead filled belt plate has come to be known as the "baby" by collectors. It measures approximately 2-3/4 x 1-5/8 inches and has only a single prong for attachment to the belt. (Later US plates would feature two prongs.) This plate saw service during the Seminole and Mexican Wars and even appears in images of Civil War soldiers early in the conflict.
