Description: US M551 Sheridan AR/AAV (Armored Reconnaissance/Airborne Assault Vehicle). A light tank with M81 152mm gun/missile launcher, M2 calibre .50 heavy machine gun and 7.62mm M73, M219 or M240C coaxial machine gun. Technically impressive when it entered service in 1966, with a IR link controlled, SACLOS ATGM in the MGM-51 Shillelagh and caseless cannon ammunition that included powerful HEAT, HE and flechette rounds, and the only air droppable American tank, the Sheridan was plagued with problems. Thin armor rendered it vulnerable to 12.7mm HMG fire, the caseless ammunition caught fire too easily when the armor was penetrated while not combusting completely when fired, greatly reducing rate of fire, and the gun's massive recoil scrambled the already troubled Shillelagh's electronics. After poor service in Viet Nam, Sheridan was withdrawn from service starting in 1978. Fewer than 200 Sheridans were retained until 1997 in the 82nd Airborne, the National Guard, at the National Training Center modified to resemble Soviet vehicles for large scale force on force training. Also available rigged for swimming with a built in, non-traversable turret and deployed flotation screen. See https://www.ebay.com/itm/2049575132403d SLA printed from grey resin under license from V.
