Approx. size is 26x26cm (10x10in). Mawata refers to a type of silk preparation that softens silk cocoons and stretches them onto a square frame. They are processed painstakingly by hand, one square at time. Silk Mawata come from the southern part of China. China has long been known for manufacturing silk. Whatever your interest, this silk is beautiful to work with: Dyeing: Easy to dye (acid, fiber reactive, natural dyes or Kool-Aid in your microwave) or hand paint. Felting: Good for all types of felting and gives a rich texture and shine. Spinning: On its own or blended with other fibers. The resulting threads / yarns are very soft.
