Description: Soviet Russian Order of the Red Star, seven-digit serial number, awarded to a Senior Lieutenant of the NKVD, later Militia in Chisinau in 1945 for 15 years of service. Beyond the archival document supporting this award, the recipient can be identified from a 1942-dated document (text posted online by independent researchers, with exact citation of the archival file – see images) which shows him serving as one of two cryptographers in the 1st Regiment of the Militia Division of the North-Caucasus Front. This division was subordinated to the NKVD and was in combat. Many of the officers mentioned in the awarding document had fascinating and dark careers. At least two of them were comrades of the recipient from the 1st Regiment, including his highly decorated regimental commissar who, recovering from wounds suffered with the Regiment in July 1942, became Deputy People's Commissar for the Militia in the Moldovan SSR. The research supporting the identification of the recipient by award serial number is a redacted excerpt of an archival document (apparently from a “closed” archive) that provides the following information:1) a list of award recipients, the names and serial numbers of the awards presented, and the serial numbers of the accompanying order/medal booklets2) the date of awarding3) the awarding authority – both the body that authorized the award and the government official empowered to physically present the awards To reiterate – the archival document is excerpted (i.e. snippets of pages from a multi-page file) and redacted (award serial numbers for other recipients have been blurred out). That is what I received with the Red Star, and that is what I am passing on. Serial number matches the archival document. The archival document is not pictured in the listing and will be provided in electronic format to the winner only. Professional English translation available upon request. Contextual research about some of the other award recipients is available upon request in the form of links and possibly some notes. Condition is great, as seen in the images! No returns.
