In this microphone, a unidirectional capsule and bi-directional capsule (using 2 unidirectional capsules) are mounted at right angles and close together in the same plane. The uni-directional capsule (for the mid-microphone) picks up sound from the front and the bi-directional capsule (for the side-microphone) picks up sound from the left and right channel electrically through a matrix circuit. As a result, the ECM-MS5 realizes a better stereo reproduction.
