Decca Classical celebrates Sir Solti’s significant contribution to London’s musical life with a limited edition set of symphonic, orchestral works, and concerto recordings, a legacy rich in repertoire and artistic vitality. 36 CDs presented in spined wallets and with original sleeves. Sir Georg Solti KBE was a Hungarian-British orchestral and operatic conductor, known for his appearances with opera companies in Munich, Frankfurt, and London, and as a long-serving music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Solti recorded throughout his career for the Decca Record Company. He made more than 250 recordings, including 45 complete opera sets. Known in his early years for the intensity of his music making, he was widely considered to have mellowed as a conductor in later years. Solti was one of the first conductors who came to international fame as a recording artist before being widely known in the concert hall or opera house; he was repeatedly honoured by the recording industry with awards throughout his career. From 1963 to 1998, he won 31 Grammy Awards as a recording artist, making him the Grammy Awards' most-awarded artist until Beyoncé surpassed his record in 2023. The box is heavy cardboard; the inner is white, and the outer case is dark blue. The title of the box set is on the front side of the box in silver and white, with Solti's profile in white; the top has the title in silver in white. The back of the box has a set list for all the CDs. The box measures 5-1/4" x 5" x 5-1/4". All proceeds benefit the Libraries of Pima County. Please review all photos. This listing has been donated.
