Description: Hackmanite, a rare species of Sodalite, which is known for it's "tenebrescence", which means it changes color when exposed to UV light. This is a reversible process. In this case, the light purple becomes more intense. This is an excellent specimen for the species, not only showing a good complex crystal for the species, but also has that pleasing saturated purple one would like to see in a Hackmanite. This piece is from Sar e Sang, in Afghanistan and was in the collection of Francis Hueber, a noted mineral collector from the East Coast(who was even more well known as a paleobotanist at the Smithsonian institute). At the time, as seen on the mineral labels, this specimen was valued at $350. as since more has come out of the region, I've lowered the price, but this specimen still stands out for the species. This specimen is 3/4 oz in weight, or 21 grams. The size is 1.2 inch x 1.5 inch x 0.6 inch. Please be advised, I ship with Ground advantage.
