Description: Few players in any pro sport have ever had a career the likes of which the great Gordie Howe had in Detroit with the Red Wings over 25 years, so it was with both sadness and respect that the Detroit Free press covered his retirement announcement on September 8, 1971. Of course, although he was already 43, it was not the end of Howe's career, only his time in Detroit; as he would return to the game to play with his sons for Houston of the World Hockey Association two years later. Offered here is the complete 16 page Sports Section of the Free Press; with more content on Howe inside, plenty of baseball, and a delightful three pages of vintage comic strips. In very solid condition with light toning and a small tear at the top of the spine. A Detroit time capsule! Shipping: Will ship the newspaper gently folded, bagged and packaged with stiff cardboard backing. Guesstimating shipping costs on these kind of items is an inexact science, and so my policy is to reimburse buyers for any excess costs charged once shipped. And I always combine shipping costs when multiple items are won.
