Description: Stunning circa 1970s Seiko 5 Sport SpeedTimer, affectionately referred to in collector's circles as the "Black Pogue". This was a JDM (Japan Direct Market) version, that was not initially sold in the US directly, and instead they have made their way here over the years as enthusiasts have imported them for their distinctive characteristics. A few cool things to note about this model: The dial says "Water 70mPROOF", which is a highly sought-after feature, and is called a "PROOF dial", as later models would include "Water 70mResist". Since it's impossible to make anything waterproof...the lawyers got involved some time ago :)The 6030 has what is called a "notch case", and you can see on the side where the crown sits there is a literal notch right above it in the case. This is unique to the early 6139 cases, typically only those with PROOF dials, but there is some published evidence in old ads that there were some later RESIST models that have a notch case as wellThe day window has both English and Kanji (Chinese characters for days of the week). You can select whether you want the English or Kanji dates by pushing the crown in "clicking it" all the way in. A light press will change the date, and a hard press will change the dayThere is no manual-winding option, instead, when the crown is depressed to the standard position, aligned with the case, it will rotate the internal 60-minute bezel for timing purposes. This will allow you to time for 2 consecutive events, one for 60 minutes using the internal bezel, and one for up to 30 minutes using the chronograph function at the bottom of the dialThis watch has been restored with a brand new crystal, and the pusher gaskets have been replaced (common for these older Seikos to have pusher gaskets that have turned into a crusty mess which causes the pushers to stick)! We have also affixed a brand new UncleStraps Lincoln steel band to the watch, giving it that classic Seiko look! Overall the watch is in great shape, and keeps very good time, gaining/losing no more than 12 seconds per day in most positions. The seconds counter for the chronograph doesn't reset directly to 0 (see last picture to see where it resets to about 1.5sec), this can easily be remedied with a basic service by a watchmaker. Because the watch otherwise is in great condition, you can run the chronograph for 59 seconds and stop it at 0, as I've done in the remaining photos. Light patina and light scratches on the watch, consistent with a vintage watch that has been well cared for. This is a vintage timepiece, and as such, the typical quirks of owning such watches should be expected. Given the age of the watch, I don't guarantee accuracy of timekeeping post-sale. Note that we use lighting methods with our photography to highlight the condition of our watches that often result in imperfections appearing to be more pronounced than they will look in person. A basic service, at the new owner's expense is recommended for all of the watches we sell. Please reach out with any questions you have about a particular watch and we're also happy to take additional photos of a watch you're interested in! Will only ship insured, buyer signature required, and within continental US. Non-paying bidders will be reported. Payment required within 24hrs or sale will be cancelled and item relisted.
