Description: San Sylmar: A Treasure House of Functional Fine Art, Text by Connie O'Kelly, Photographs by Dennis R Millard, Hardcover Limited Edition book from 1978, includes dust jacket and 7" Vinyl 45 "The Sounds of San Sylmar". Dust jacket is in good condition, it shows a fair amount of wear and tonal aging- wear along the spine, edges and corners, as well as several small nicks / tears/ creases. Jacket has been repaired in a few spots on the back and reinforced with clear archival tape. Has been covered in poly plastic to preserve and protect it further (brand name Brodart). NOTE!!! Dust jacket shows evidence of moisture exposure on the back, with minor rippling. The Book looks like it was also exposed to moisture, if you look through the pictures you will notice some of the pages are a little wavy- specifically, look at the last 2 pictures. The effect is minimal, and easy to miss. There is no mold, or image / graphic loss, this book is still readable / desirable, however if it wasnt for the moisture exposure I would grade the book Very Good, instead of just Good. The cover of the book underneath the dust jacket has an elaborate, embossed, copper-toned, 3D relief of the San Sylmar doors which are pictured on the back of the dust jacket. They protrude outward enough, that their shape is pressed into the dust jacket, you can faintly see the shape of the doors through the DJ in some pics. The original doors at the San Sylmar location are 10" tall molded bronze. The book is also signed on the inner page "To My Friend Henry," I cant make out the next line, then it is signed "Byron Matson 1979". I was surprised to notice that Byron Matson is the name of the narrator on the label of the 7" record included, "The Sounds of San Sylmar". The record looks to be in excellent condition. Further investigation on the internet reveals that Byron Matson has a credit on IMDB, because he was on an episode of the PBS show, Visiting "With Huell Howser". In the 1999 episode, Huell interviews Byron Matson about the San Sylmar museum, and Byron gives him a guided tour. IMDB credits Byron Matson as "Head curator at The Nethercutt Collection museum in Sylmar, California from its opening in August, 1972 until his retirement 30 years later" So it turns out that this book is signed by the head curator of the San Sylmar Museum for 30 years. If you want to see the episode referenced, just google "Huell Howser, San Sylmar museum" Front and back covers are in very good condition, spine and binding still strong, all pages intact From a different listing for the same book, elsewhere on the internet: 278 pages; Folio (12.25") 31 cm; Tall heavy hardcover, red textured buckram cloth, magnificent copper-toned design on front cover, 278 glossy pages, 356 full-color photos of vehicles, 170 more photos showing other objects of beauty, a total of 526 sumptuous full-color photos. Includes more than 70 luxury automobiles dating from as early as 1912, most shown in 4 to 6 photos each. ; 1st edition, 1978. Limited Edition stated. Photos by Dennis R. Millard. ; This book highlights the Nethercutt Collection, an incredible assortment of beautiful yet functional objects on display at San Sylmar, Los Angeles, California, including (mainly) scores of remarkable vintage vehicles, but also hood ornaments, music boxes, watches, clocks, orchestrons, orchestrions and other amazing instruments, and more. NOTE: This book shows evidence of moisture exposure, Please read the full description and look closely at all the photos-
