Description: Sabal Birmingham is a cold hardy trunking sabal palm, slower than palmetto but much larger than a minor. It's thought to be a hybrid but no DNA testing has been done so far. The original plant came from California and was planted in Birmingham Alabama where it survived for over 40 years before succumbing to transplant shock after being moved. If given the right climate it should reach a height over 20 feet tall in time. They are slow growers but I have 3 planted out and have never protected them even when we had lows around 4f. They are much hardier than sabal palmetto and may have some sabal minor in them which would explain the hardiness and slower growth. These are 1 gallon palm which we grew from seed. They do love summer heat like all sabals and respond well to extra water during summer. We ship these USPS Priority mail, we'll wrapped but without the container and remove some soil only as necessary.
