Description: In 1977, a mini-series titled 'Roots' aired on ABC television. It was on for eight nights. It always ran with parental guidance warnings, due to the subject nature. It was very controversial for its time, but my parents let us watch it, which I did. I was really young, but it's a fascinating show that didn't hold back. It's a historical look back at that way things were in the late 1700s and the 1800s. The program was based on a book by American author Alex Haley, a descendant of African born slaves. Haley passed away in 1992. The book was so long that a second mini-series TV show was also made, and titled 'Roots The Next Generation', which continued on where the original 'Roots' left off. In 2016, the History Channel remade 'Roots', and released the three disc set on DVD. It's the same story, using the same names. With today's technology and special effects. It's also closer to the book, and can get pretty violent at times. This versions clocks in at six and a half hours! The first 'Roots' contains THREE two sided DVDs, for a total of six sides. The last disc is special features. The discs themselves all look really good, with only a few very light surface marks on a couple of them. Nothing bad, or that will affect play. The outer slipcover box has a fair amount of wear on it, mostly on the corners. The follow-up 'The Next Generation' is FOUR double sides DVDs. Each one looks great, and are all still shiny and clean. The outer box has some shelf-wear also, though not as bad as the original set. The remake's three (one sided) discs all look shiny and clean. Case also looks great. Grab this very interesting (and at times disturbing) look at American history. Written by an author who traced his family tree back to 1767, when his ancestor Kunta Kinte was stolen from his family and his tribe, and brought to the new United States to become a life-long slave.
