Roman Coin Ancient Authentic 270 AD Emperor Claudius II Gothicus Eagle Genuine

Description: This is an authentic ancient Roman coin from the year 270 AD, following the reign of Emperor Claudius II Gothicus. The coin features a portrait of the emperor representing the power and authority of the Roman Empire during this time period. The reverse depicts an eagle following his untimely death in the year 270 AD. In ancient Rome, the eagle was known as the king of birds. It was a symbol of imperial power, and therefore represented courage, strength and immortality. The eagle remains one of the most famous animal symbols associated with ancient Rome today. Marcus Aurelius Claudius "Gothicus", 10 May 214 – August/September 270, also known as Claudius II, was Roman emperor from 268 to 270. During his reign he fought successfully against the Alemanni and decisively defeated the Goths at the Battle of Naissus. He died after succumbing to a "pestilence", possibly the Plague of Cyprian that had ravaged the provinces of the Empire. Its historical significance and rarity make it a great piece for both novice and experienced collectors. C12
