Description: See my other items for sale. In the 1990s, alternative rock icon Robyn Hitchcock found himself in association with Rhino Records. During this brief interval, the crate-diggers and revivalists at the label took it upon themselves to compile an ideal version of the artist's doomed 1982 solo sophomore album Groovy Decay. The original release's problematic production choices and '80s-era saxophone had so dismayed Hitchcock that he took a 3-year hiatus from recording. Hitchcock himself had attempted a re-boot of the album by releasing a collection of the original demos recorded with former Soft Boy member Matthew Seligman, which he dubbed Groovy Decoy in 1985. Then he moved on to the brilliant album I Often Dream Of Trains. This CD compilation of original tracks, alternate versions and demo tracks appeared on the Rhino Records label in 1995 [R2 71821]. It probably presents the best versions of all these tracks, and rescues two songs that were long-standing entries in Hitchcock live setlists well into the '90s ("Fifty Two Stations" and "America"). There are also two bonus tracks for the terminally curious. The booklet includes an interview with Hitchcock by music writer Grant Alden that can't quite conceal Hitchcock's bemused disinterest in the project. At any rate, Hitchcock quickly moved on to Yep Roc Records and this ambitious undertaking was promptly deleted from Hitchcock's discography. Track Listing 1. The Rain (4:22)2.
