Description: RARE Original WWI Helmet, Wood AMMO BOX, Dog Tag, Letters, Pictures, Postcard & MORE! FREE U.S. SHIP This comes from my Dad's personal WW2 Collection. He was an Army Vet who served in the 79th Lorraine Division during D-Day. He collected many items from his own time in France & Germany, but he also collected many other WWII memorabilia that he, and then I saved for over 70 years. This is THE FIRST of one of the Rarest WWI Collections in his COLLECTION! Everything in this collection is kept in an old suitcase belonging to: ARTHUR B. FARRAR Batt A 101st FA USNG 133299 I love history and this has been so interesting going over Mr. Farrar's many Letters, Pictures, Maps, Dog Tags, Gas Mask, Bible, Mirror, Helmet, a box of Fanny Farmer Candies! This is his DOG TAG that comes in this collection...we put it in an acid free display case. Arthur was a great man! From all these letters he wrote to his Mom, we learned about his time in the U.S. Army and what it was like to be & fight in the Great War! He came from Massachusetts, crossed the Atlantic on the S.S.ADRIATIC... He did a lot of work with Horses in France, he wrote about the battles he fought in Belgium & France, his Christmases & injury he suffered...and so much more! The Group in this collection includes his actual HELMET, WWI "Armistice" NEWSPAPER, a DOG TAG, a Postcard he wrote from the SS. ADRIATIC & of course, an original PHOTO postcard of Arthur wearing his Helmet. He wrote this to his Ma on Mar 15, 1918 and numbered it "No 5" Arthur wrote many letters to his mother at home in Massachusetts, but he wrote a copy of his letters in 2 thick journals because he explains that his letters take so long to reach home. He even numbered the letters and refers to this problem so he could keep track of what he wrote to her last. These first 2 Letters are dated Sept 11, 1917 and Sept 27, 1917 and Arthur writes about crossing the ocean on the S.S. Adriatic... He arrived in Halifax on the ship protected by Battleships and "the British have certainly got the "Subs" under control"...he then crossed the English Channel (censored) where they joined up with the "fine French troops on a train with 40 in one car, dealing in French money." He also asks his Mom to send him a "Soldiers French Book" and tells her he has the Army sending her money from his pay every month! But, she will have to pay postage since they can't buy stamps. This is Arthur Farrar's HELMET He was injured and hospitalized in the war, but I don't know if this dent was from shrapnel or a kick from his horses! The leather strap and liner are still intact... We include this WWI wood AMMO BOX... You also receive this VERY RARE Nov. 11, 1918 NEWSPAPER announcing the "Armistice" Agreement when the Germans Surrendered... This very old NEWSPAPER has 4 pages and has really interesting articles and photos...It shows a Map of what the new Europe" will look like & interesting articles including "taking hot baths for mustard gas"... This is his S.S. ADRIATIC Ship Card that tells him where to berth and eat! On the back in he wrote the prices for gold and copper? On the postcard he wrote this note & mailed it to Chelsea, Mass...(near Boston) This WWI Collection is NOT A REPRODUCTION & is all ORIGINAL as you see them in our photos. You receive every WWI item you see in this Collection. We don't want to break up the collection, so please don't ask. We don't include the Flag or Glass Head! Sorry.
