Rare Restored Early Vintage NY Built Steinberger XP2 Bass

Description: If you are looking at this listing, then you know your basses, and you know what you want. This is it. Don't be put off by the price compared to the other listings for a similar Steiney. None of them use the word 'restored'. Because they aren't. This bass was restored and re-fretted to like new condition by Jeff Babicz - who worked for Ned Steinberger at the factory in Newburgh, NY. Whom I bought it from in May 2021. Look at my photos vs theirs - you can tell that this one has been taken care of. I've come to know that this isn't an ordinary XP2. Factory prototype as it's using some parts that didn't make it to the production models. That alone makes this one kind of rare. Serial number N0698. See photos. This is a very early model. Even though it has some minor buckle rash on the back (not me!) and a couple of minor dings around the edges (also not me!), the bass looks almost like new. It also plays like new. In 3 years I've played it maybe 100 hours - all home studio and practice. I've lost interest in playing, and think it's time to pass this beauty on to someone else who can appreciate it for what it is. Headless brand gig-bag included. Very similar to the original Steiney bags. Sure you can buy one of the cheaper ones listed on this site, or have another shipped from Japan. Or you can have this one, shipped from North Carolina.
