Description: This rare helmet is in excellent condition, inside and out. Size 60-62, with all straps intact. The SSK 90 helmet was introduced in May of 1941 to protect air crew from shrapnel and machine-gun fire. The inner core consisted of interlocking steel plates, and the helmet’s 4.2-pound weight was not popular in early trials. 18 days after introduction, the Luftwaffe withdrew the helmet from service, which is why it is so scarce.
