The plants for sale are medium sized at about 1" in diameter. The plant will be shipped bare root with no soil. This species is easy to grow and suitable for beginners. Best coloration is achieved with very bright light. Plants grown in bright light have reddish pink leaves and compact size. Medium light levels result in plants with both reddish pink and green leaves like in the first photo. Lower levels of light will result in green leaves and larger leaves. Flowers are a beautiful deep red color like in the first photo. This butterwort has winter and summer growth forms. Plants grown under constant tropical conditions will remain in the summer form. Shorter day lengths and cooler temperatures encourage the transition to the winter form, which consists of a small rosette of tightly arranged non-carnivorous leaves. Butterworts should be planted in a general purpose carnivorous plant mix. Do not plant butterworts in potting mix for houseplants or fertilize the soil as this can kill them. Fertilization is not required, but the plant may be fertilized by lightly misting the leaves with a very dilute water soluble fertilizer once a month.
