Description: Framed Original Hand-Colored Engravings - Butterflies From 'Anatomy of Butterflies' published in Edinburgh and London, Circa 1835 These hand-colored prints are known in the trade as 'Jardine Butterfly Prints' and were published by Sir William Jardine as a multi volume set approx between the years 1830 an 1840. The copper engravings were created by the Scottish artist William Lizars (1788 - 1859). I can't identify the butterflies, their names are shown in Latin. Attractively framed with double acid-free mats under glass, with a particularly beautiful gilt frame. All in excellent condition. The double print image sizes are: 6-1/4" x 4" with the overall frame size: 11-1/2" x 14-1/2" You'll find these Jardine Butterfly prints on the internet being offered by antiquarian print dealers. They can sell anywhere from $35.00 to $60.00 each, unframed. Note: The apparent distortion of the frame in the main pic is from the cheap lens in my camera. ____________________________________Inv.
