Description: This offering is for a mid 19th century covered burl sugar bowl. While it may have served as a sugar it could of course easily have held any assortment of life's necessities. The overall height to the top of the lid is 4.75" and the maximum diameter it 5". The lid is interesting in that it has a metal cap attached to the underside, held in place by a single cut nail, to provide a lip flange. This appears to be original and not a later make do. The burl graining is vivid and varies around the body of the bowl. The bottom shows both hand planing marks and excellent wear.
