Specifically, it focuses on the US 112th Infantry Regiment’s assault on the town of Schmidt, and the German counter-attacks by the 89th Infantry and 116th Panzer Divisions. In poor weather, facing difficult terrain and determined resistance, the soldiers of the 28th Division made a gallant effort. At the cost of several thousand lives, they came close to succeeding.
