Share the magic! ****** Like most magicians who started getting serious about magic in the late 1970's, I often performed the classic Spot Card effect -- versions include Tenyo's What's Next, Royal Magic's Dubious Domino, Neilsen's Dinamo, and my favorite version, the Delben Domino. I still include the spot card effect in some of my shows. Well, one of magic's most creative geniuses, Angelo Carbone, took the two-dimensional spot card and made it 3-D. The spots always seemed more suited to a die, and so Carbone has put the effect on a large die. You show a 4.5 inch die with one spot side toward the audience. You give it a turn and show the Two side. Another turn to show the side with 3 spots. Then the four spot, five spot and six spot sides of the die. But then you turn it again to show a seventh side with (you guessed it) seven spots. Another turn to show a side with EIGHT spots, and finally, after a dramatic pause (for the audience to silently say to themselves, "NFW"), you turn the die once more to show a side with NINE spots. I find the Nine Sided Die to be an excellent opening effect, as it only takes about 30 seconds to perform, and quickly lets my audience know they are in for both amazement and fun. Carbone's Nine sided die is more complicated to execute than the 2-dimensional spot card, but it is much more visual and more baffling. It takes some practice to perform smoothly, but once you have the sequence solid in your mind, and the knack of turning the die, it is not difficult. This is original and authorized version of this trick, produced with Carbone's permission by Uday. It is nicely made. The die is made of sturdy cardboard, and folds flat for storage. My online search for this item today showed that original, authentic Nine Sided Die's are hard to find now.
