Description: From the fifth portfolio of the William Henry Vanderbilt Collection. Described by Edward Strahan [pseud, for Earl Shinn]. Published by George Barrie, ca.1884. Five hundred copies of this edition were produced for sale. There were 500 portfolios containing 20 photogravures of paintings printed on satin. This is one print from a Vanderbilt Collection portfolio. It is based on the painting “Spring Flowers” by Jean-Louis Hamon. The print is tacked down to a backer board outside of the image area but not mounted. Image size: 7 ½” x 9 ½”; Border size around image area is 1 ½” on the sides; 1 7/8” on the top and 2 ¾” on the bottom; Satin sheet size: 12 ¾” x 18 ½”; Overall size with mat is 25 ½ x 18 ½”. Print is in Fine condition with two pin sized dimples in the right side margin. An elegant piece worthy of a proper mat and frame. Note that this item will be packaged properly without the mat to reduce shipping costs.
