Description: A beautiful collectible set of four U.S. postage stamps issued on February 22nd, 1956 as part of the Liberty Series of stamps to highlight people and places important to American democratic history. The stamps feature a reproduction of a photograph of Mount Vernon facing the Potomac River. Completed in 1743, Mount Vernon was George Washington's plantation home in Virginia. Washington applied scientific methods to farming and established one of the nation's largest distilleries. George and Martha Washington are interred on the estate. The mansion and grounds are open to the public for guided tours. These stamps have never been used and are as fresh as they were the day they were first sold at the post office almost 70 years ago! Suitable for framing, they would make a great gift for anyone who has visited this beautiful and historic mansion or is interested in US history. Look in my auctions for other blocks of U.S. stamps of historical significance! All stamps are Mint Never Hinged. Shipping is $1.00 for first class mail.
