Description: Book is 9" x 6" x 1.25" with 432 pages. This volume would be of interest to anyone seeking raw data on the pre Civil War status of the United States Navy & its squadrons around the world with the names of many of the men then involved including many civilian contractors. A wealth of information, if you wish to learn more about our maritime history etc. This book came from a local home here in Columbia Falls & the inscribed name in the front is "G. WILSON" whom I believe to have been Gowen Wilson, a prominent citizen of the time. Although we are not a coastal town we are one town in from the sea & at the head of the tide where ships were once built in the day of sail, and many of those ships left our docks with cargo for distant ports & without doubt Mr. Gowen Wilson owned or had a part interest in the ships and/or cargo. As a historian & genealogist it always pleases me when I can provide even a tiny bit of factual provenance to go along with a book that I must now find a new home for due to age & health. As a rule I don't give a hint that your purchase will also mean a surprise gift, but for this item it seems appropriate to say that the surprise gift will also be maritime related. Now, if you feel like an appropriate new home for this book, you know the process. Good luck!
