This is an unusual piece of art by Mr. Stevens. This original oil on canvas painting was scraped down after larger "finished" copy made so he could use canvas for another painting which is written on the bottom of the stretcher. The back of the canvas reads " On Location Sketch Delano Park 1912. The painting does not have a frame. Canvas is in very good condition with no rips, tears or repairs. The painting measures 14" x 18". Would be a cool piece to display as it is or do a collaboration and paint it in and bring it back to its original beauty. John Calvin Stevens 1855 - 1940 Born in Boston and lived in Portland, Maine. He made a major contribution to the Shingle Style of Architecture in the Northeastern United States. John was primarily an architect who designed residences in two divergent styles, the Shingle Style, of which he was an originator in the 1880s, and the Colonial Revival style, which dominated United States domestic architecture for the first half of the last century. His designs can be found along the Maine coast as well as in Portland and its suburbs. He was also a landscape painter who exhibited with the Boston Art Club, the Portland Society of Art, which he served as President, and the Brushians, a local group of southern Maine landscape painters of which he was the youngest by 20 years. They nicknamed him "The Old Man". Please make note Free Shipping as well as upgraded shipping methods are for lower 48 US Destinations.
