Description: MABEL LEMOS (1861-1921). California Still Life - Bowl of Roses, 9-1/2" x 13-1/2" (framed size: 15" x 19") signed lower right: Mabel Lemos. Condition: A few frame nicks, Light stretcher bar lines, light craquelure, could have two touch-ups upper right sky, back is covered by paper. Born in Illinois on March 18, 1861. Mabel and William Lemos arrived in California in 1886. During their first ten years the couple worked in San Francisco and Los Angeles. After settling in Santa Cruz, CA in 1896, Mrs. Lemos was active in civic affairs as well as the local art scene. She died there of cancer on June 30, 1921. Her painting forte was floral still lifes.
