Description: Limoges William Guerin Georgian Watteau Scene Cobalt & Gold 12 1/4 Inch Charger Plate Nice antique porcelain charger. Decorated with a Colonial / Georgian courting couple or Watteau scene in a fenced in yard. The man is wearing a brown Colonial era frock coat, white cravat, and appears to be stirring tea. The woman is wearing a Georgian / Colonial style gown in pink, white and is holding a fan while sitting on a table. She has on a black choker and there is a parasol or umbrella leaning against a stool in front of the table. The scene is surrounded by a wide border of deep cobalt blue with a thin band of gold gilding between it and the scene, and elaborate fancy gold gilt scrollwork overlay pattern and gilding along the edge. The charger is marked in green on the back Limoges WG & Co France. This is an underglaze whiteware mark used by William Guerin in Limoges France between 1900 and 1932. Also marked in red Wm Guerin & CO Limoges France. This is an overglaze decorating mark used by William Guerin in Limoges France between the 1800s and 1932. Underneath this it reads Fabrique Pour Addison & Dunn Baltimore MD. This means it was made for the importer's Addison and Dunn, who were located at 226 North Howard Street in Baltimore. Has some wear to the gilding along the edge, but otherwise excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Measures approximately 12 1/4 inches wide. This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not affect the display of the piece.
