Leitz Leica M4-2 NEW Store OLD Stock, BOXED BODY, complete

Description: You are bidding on a Leica M4-2 Black body that is new in the box, as shipped by Leitz, USA to the dealer. It has been stored for about 40 years, untouched. All functions are working, however, before using this Leica, the buyer is urged to have it checked by a technician, since Leica recommends a CLA for cameras such as this example, that have sat idle for many years. Note that the slow speeds, below 1/30 second are not accurate. The shutter may need to be "excercised" to bring it back to normal functioning. The back folding flap has two small spots where the interior Styrofoam packing material had adhered to it. It is difficult to see in the last photo. Included:Leica M4-2 Black body #1481453Leica M-Body CapLeica Flash Synch Caps (2) Leica StrapLeica M4-2 InstructionsLeica Warranty Card (blank) w/return Leitz envelopeLeica Box with interior packing NOTES and UPDATES:This Leica M4-2 camera is in full working order, except for the slow shutter speeds, 1/30 second and longer, which are not accurate. The second shutter curtain doesn't "creep", which is an encouraging sign, indicating that by "excercising" the shutter, the slow speeds may return to normal.Keep in mind that this Leica has never been used, and has sat untouched for about 40 years. The viewfinder is clear with no separation, fungus or mildew. The rangefinder is accurate and properly aligned on its vertical axis. The frame preview lever works perfectly. The film advance/shutter cocking lever action is smooth and strong, without any wiggle or hesitation. The shutter curtains are perfect, and speeds B and above 1/30 seem accurate to my eyes and ears. The Leica M4-2 has no "L" seal, as this camera was manufactured in Canada. As far as I know, only the Wetzlar manufactured Leicas from this era carried the "L" seal.Regarding the tiny spots on the rear film door as a result of being stored against the Styrofoam interior inside the box, there are two solutions: 1. Replace the door with a new one. These are still available either from Leica or secondary sources. 2. Have an experienced repairman polish out the spots and retouch them. I would attempt it myself if I wanted to keep the camera as a collector's item, since this is possibly the only unused Leica M4-2 in existence. On the other hand, if the camera were to be used, then I would leave it alone. Those tiny spots are really so insignificant that it wouldn't bother me. Either way, I'm going to leave that decision to the buyer.Good luck! Introduced in 1978 and produced predominantly by Leitz, Canada the M4-2 is basically an M4 without self-timer. The major difference between the two models is that the M4-2 is designed to accept a motor winder allowing film to be exposed at up to 3 frames per second.Except for 1000 gold-plated models commemorating Oskar Barnack's birth centenary, the other approximately 16,000 made were finished in black chrome. The classic series of Leica M (bayonet) cameras have a long history as one of the most popular camera systems in history. Many famous photos in the last century were taken with Leica rangefinder model cameras. The model M4 is one of the most desired. It features a more modern look but retains the popular functions of the earlier models.
