They have a shock resistance far superior to most hard woods, it is also conditionally excellent, and collected from well managed domestic forests and not taken from the fragile tropical or rain-forest environments. There are other hard wood species, that are taken from already depleted environments. The quality of our Appalachian hickory Jo staffs are a light, to dark colored wood with many color variations.
