Description: It is a Pottery Kishimojin Buddha statue figurine. The zushi is made of wood. There is a signature on the back of the zushi. This piece is a statue that embodies the deep love and devotion of a mother for her child. This is a very rare ceramic statue of Kishimojin (Hariti). It is made of clay containing iron, similar to Tokoname or Tanba ware. The surface is coated with a substance that appears to be lacquer, ink, or glue, giving it a black finish. The statue is extremely hard and well-fired. The statue comes with a zushi (miniature shrine), which contains a mandala of the Lotus Sutra in the center, Nichiren Shonin on the right, and Shakyamuni Buddha on the left. --- About Kishimojin --- Kishimojin, originally a mother of 500 children, was feared for abducting and eating human children to feed her own. Seeing this, Shakyamuni Buddha hid her beloved youngest child, causing her great despair. When she sought Buddha's help, he taught her the pain of losing a child and guided her to give up harming others. After taking refuge in Buddhism, she became a protector of the Dharma, a guardian of children, safe childbirth, and also believed to ward off theft.
