Description: Israel Official Mint Piefort New Sheqel Coins Set 1986 Uncirculated Description: In celebration of the State of Israel's 38th Anniversary, the Israel Government Coins and Medals Corporation have minted a new coin set. The new Sheqel coins are struck on double thickness, extra heavy blanks (Piefort). All five coins, the 1 agora, 5 agorot, 10 agorot, 1/2 new Sheqel and 1 new Sheqel, which have been struck by the Mint of Paris, are of outstanding quality. Each coin is mint marked with a tiny Star of David and the mint date 1986-5746. The 1 agora, 5 agorot and 10 agorot coins bear the same designs as the old 10 Sheqel, 50 Sheqel and 100 Sheqel coins respectively, which they replace. Their values are imprinted in a raised textured square. The 1/2 new Sheqel and 1 new Sheqel coins have completely new designs. The 1/2 new Sheqel bears a lyre design taken from an antique seal which belonged to a Judean princess of the 7th Century B.C.E. The 1 new Sheqel coin has a lily and the inscription "YHD" in ancient Hebrew script, derived from a Judean coin from the time of the Persian rule (4th century B.C.E - 6th Century B.C.E.).
