Description: 16 by 16 inch Illinois SOUVENIR US route 66 highway marker road sign. made to the 1948 specification for US route markers. condition is as shown in the photos. sign is black screen print on white painted background, on aluminum. it lies completely straight and flat with very minimal shelf wear. please note that this is NOT a route 66 sign that was ever put into service along the highway itself. in 1976, the Illinois Highway Department found itself with a surplus of badge-shaped diecut US route marker blanks. they had the prison run them off as Route 66 using the same screen prints - but, critically, on NON-REFLECTIVE white paint. that is the key way to differentiate these from the official ones. again, this one is a SOUVENIR from 1976 - two years after Route 66 was no longer signed in Illinois. signs guaranteed old, original, authentic. bid with confidence.
