Description: CONDITION: Slight surface rubbing to left of pitch fork. No other defects. This porcelain plate was produced in France by Haviland & Co. Limoges between 1888 and 1896. The painting is signed by the renowned Haviland artist, Antonine Soustre. The plate measures 9 1/8 inches in diameter. The plate edge is slightly scalloped and intricately gilded. The border of the plate is cobalt blue. The center of the plate has a hand painted scene, after Jean- Francois Millet, named “The Angelus”. A farmer and his wife pray at sunset for a good harvest. The artist has portrayed the scene in a dusky glow of evening with the suggestion of a town in the background. The sumptuous gilding and accents of red give this plate Sevres like style. It has outstanding beauty that will never go out of fashion. #E525 IMPORTANT: PLEASE DO NOT PAY until you have purchased all the items you plan to bid on.
