FORMAT Hardcover LANGUAGE English CONDITION Brand New Publisher Description Halston is the definitive chronicle of Roy Halston Frowick, the iconic 1970s designer who cleared the runways of hippie chic and defined a decade of glamorous style electrified by disco and celebrity. A must-have for the fashion and style set. Written from an insiders perspective by Halstons niece, this is the first complete monograph celebrating the designers glamorous, minimalist aesthetic that would come to personify American fashion in the decadent era of the 1970s. Known for the clothing he designed for the dance floors of Studio 54, Halston is also synonymous with a quintessentially American kind of sporty, easy fashion that embodied chic simplicity. Author Biography Lesley Frowick is one of Halstons six nieces. After a childhood spent mostly abroad as the daughter of a United States diplomat, she had the unique fortune of landing in Halstons orbit during the 1980s. She worked on Halstons Spring 1984 collection and alongside him on costumes for Martha Grahams Paris Opera gala that same year. Lesley is presently a freelance photographer and she is the co-curator of a show at the Warhol Museum celebrating Halston and Warhol in May 2014. She works at National Geographics Creative Division in Washington, D.C. Liza Minnelli is one of the most versatile, highly regarded, and best-selling entertainers in television and stage history. The daughter of Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli and the goddaughter of Kay Thompson (creator of the beloved Eloise), Liza rose to international stardom after her portrayal of Sally Bowles in the 1972 film version of Cabaret. Halston created some of Lizas most iconic costumes for her performances. Throughout the 1970s and until Halstons death in 1990, Liza remained an inspiration to and confidant of the designer. She still wears his designs today. Upon Halstons death, Liza sponsored a memorial service hosted by Elsa Peretti at Alice Tully Hall Review "Written by Halstons niece and confidante, the pages reflect his glamorous, minimalist aesthetic that personified American fashion in the electric 1970s." –Society Diaries"This book breathes fresh vitality into his (Halstons) legacy." –Chicago Tribune"Without question Lesley Frowick has written an endearing and intimate telling of her beloved uncle, Roy Halston Frowick…telling of his life is a love letter and paean to his legacy…The best way to summarize this book is to say that Ms. Frowick has approached the life of this designer as a sentimental journey. What sets the book apart is that she concentrates on Halstons relationships to his actual family as well his extended family…it is full of photos and provides a great timeline for the designers career…" –New York Journal of Books Prizes Commended for IndieFab awards (Popular Culture) 2014 Review Quote " Written by Halstons niece and confidante, the pages reflect his glamorous, minimalist aesthetic that personified American fashion in the electric 1970s." - Society Diaries Details ISBN0847843491 Author Liza Minnelli Publisher Rizzoli International Publications ISBN-10 0847843491 ISBN-13 9780847843497 Format Hardcover Imprint Rizzoli International Publications Subtitle Inventing American Fashion Place of Publication New York Country of Publication United States Year 2014 DEWEY 746.92092 Short Title HALSTON Language English Media Book Pages 278 Publication Date 2014-11-18 NZ Release Date 2014-11-18 US Release Date 2014-11-18 Illustrations 235 COLOR & B/W ILLUSTRATIONS UK Release Date 2014-11-18 Audience General AU Release Date 2014-11-02 We've got this At The Nile, if you're looking for it, we've got it.
