Description: This very rare book is signed (autographed) by A.Y. Jackson, founder and spiritual leader of the Group of Seven, as well as signed by the author (and active member of the group) Peter Mellen as well as signed by A. J. Casson also member of the group. A. Y. Jackson was a Canadian painter and a founding member of the Group of Seven. He made a significant contribution to art in Canada. Born: October 3, 1882, Montreal. A. J. Casson, OC, was a member of the Group of Seven. He joined the group in 1926 at the invitation of Franklin Carmichael. Casson is best known for his depictions of landscapes, forests and farms of southern Ontario, and for being the youngest member of the Group of Seven. Peter Mellen, Ph.D. is the author of three previous books, including one that was a best-seller in Canada. He was also a nationally known authority on Canadian art and an award-winning documentary filmmaker. ABOUT THE VALUE OF THIS ITEM: The Group of Seven is the most famous group of painters in the art history of Canadians, and Alexander Young Jackson is the most famous of the group. Anything signed by him becomes instantly very valuable. This book signed by three of the artists of the group (including the author who was a satellite member and renowned artist and filmmaker) may indicate that several living members of the group were present during the inauguration of the said book. You will notice on the photo the signature of Jackson is very hesitant and shaky. The book was published and inaugurated in 1970. Jackson was 88 when he signed this art book. He died 4 years later. The book in itself is quite rare and and a very valuable collectors item.
