GORGEOUS Antique Handwoven Silk Ikat UZBEK Robe Coat MINT Wm’s Medium ~39" bust

Description: This beautiful, impeccably sewn silk robe/coat was purchased decades ago from a seller in Uzbekistan—and arrived intact and unblemished even though it came wrapped in two thin sheets of newspaper and tied with a flimsy string. Inside was a postcard-sized note regarding the care that read like a haiku. It said something like, “Wash using hands. Fresh water and gentle soap. Dry in sun and wind.” As much as I loved this robe, I never ended up wearing it (long story re: a Greek island), and now it’s seeking a new home where it will be cherished and hopefully worn. Because it’s handmade and ostensibly quite old, there are no tags, but these antique Uzbek robes are made of handwoven silk ikat and are generally considered free size (but in today’s sizes, it’s more like a women’s medium—or possibly a slim large). Please note that the material is not cheap, lightweight silk; the quality silk and craftsmanship give this robe/coat some heft—and feels both cozy and regal when worn. It looks to be in mint condition, especially considering its age. Despite the sweet care instructions, and while it has no musty or other odors, it’s been in storage for quite a while, so it’s off to the green/eco dry cleaners (on 23 October) and will come to you freshly cleaned—back by 30 October latest.
