Description: Up for sale is the very scarce 1822 map Geographical, Statistical and Historical Map of Arkansas Territory. Published by Carey and Lea this map shows what was then U.S. western territory from the Great Lakes through what are now Minnesota and the Dakotas, the plain states of Nebraska, Kansas, Iowas, Oklahoma, parts of Texas etc.. Fantastic descriptions abound in the write up including the 'Great Desert' write up describing roving bands of Indians. Measures approximately 18 x 23 including boarders. Condition is a significant issue. It needs restoration. Map split at fold down middle with some crude old masking tape holding it together at bottom. Waves in the paper indicate it probably was exposed to moisture at one point. These will not just flatten out and trying to just press them out will result in cracking along the waving area. Some minor cracking already exists. Other dings here and there. On the plus side the colors are bright and this can be a nice piece.An important, rare map with condition issues.
