Description: Canadian flax tow with its natural silver color. When hand processed, tow is the short, tangled fibers mixed with chaff left in the hackles during the combing process. This flax tow is machine processed, which shreds the entire plant while cleaning out much of the chaff. Tow was traditionally used for rope, oakum in ship building, mattress stuffing, doll stuffing, fire start, cleaning black powder residue from muzzle loaders, and other purposes. Today it is also used in taxidermy, handmade bows, etc. Please note that this tow has too much chaff for spinning a fine thread for fabric; however, it can be spun on a specialized tow wheel with a large orifice for making twine and rope. While this flax tow is machine processed, I do the final steps by hand and I only make a few pounds each day. I fill orders as they are received and I may not be able to get to yours for two or three weeks, but I know you'll be pleased. And I'll let you know after purchase when you can expect it.
