Hardness is 6 - 6.5. Pyrite is a polymorph of marcasite, which means that it has the same chemistry, FeS2, as marcasite; but a different structure and therefore different symmetry and crystal shapes. Galena is lead sulfate, PbS, with a hardness of 2.5 on the Mohs scale. Quartz is Silicon dioxide, SiO2, Hardness is 7.
