Description: In keeping with eBay regulations this portrait contains less than 5% total weight in antique ivory. It also was produced 1850 Also this listing is only for domestic saleThis is a fabulous American Folk portrait miniature pair, reminiscent of J.J.T. Arnold’s portraits, although to my knowledge no miniatures of his on ivory of definitely known. c1850, inscribed reverse (partial) backing card of the lady with child, “Engagement/Dec 1st 1850/RRLA to JHRA”. Note Arnold’s portraits of the Withers couple c1853 are inscribed similarly with initials only. Fascinating the reference to engagement given the lady is holding an infant…I love the story possibilities including a brother marrying his recently widowed sister in law (hence the same last initial). The miniatures are in excellent condition, the dual oval on single piece of eglomise is also excellent and the likely original frame is also excellent condition. Both measure sight size approx 2 1/2”. American folk miniatures at their most “engaging”
