Description: Eric Carman "The Rock Stops Here" Cool Records 101 Picture Sleeve Vinyl 45 rpm Both sides have the same track. 1986 Eric Carmen began his career as a singer/guitarist for the Raspberries. But his solo career took off immediately in 1976. His fame rose on the strength of hits like “All By Myself” and “Never Gonna Fall In Love Again.” Carmen’s success continued into the 1980s. In 1984, he penned Mike Reno and Ann Wilson’s hit “Almost Paradise” from the “Footloose” soundtrack and his comeback song, “I Wanna Hear It From Your Lips.” As Carmen began work on “Hungry Eyes,” the massive anthem that would be featured in the “Dirty Dancing,” his brother, Fred Carmen, came up with an idea. “If you read the various accounts of who was in the lead to get the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it was very close,” recalls Fred Carmen. “I said [to Eric], I think we should write a song as an anthem to bring the Rock Hall here.” Eric had his doubts but told his brother to work on some lyrics. It took Fred Carmen 45 minutes to put together lyrics that tell the story of Cleveland’s rock and roll lineage. An impressed Eric wrote the corresponding music and came up with the hook, “The Rock Stops Here.” The song became a hit on Cleveland radio in 1986 and coincided with local media encouraging audiences to participate in USA Today’s unofficial telephone poll asking which city should get the hall of fame. Clevelanders dominated the switchboard to the tune of 110,000 calls. The next closest city, Memphis, had 7,300.
